Awaiting Trial in Baltimore

thecensustakers

BALTIMORE—Walked into a neighborhood to enumerate after parking on a main road. When I returned, I saw a man standing by my vehicle screaming. He started running toward me screaming that I had parked in front of his driveway (no visible driveway only a gate in the fence with his car parked on the grass out of sight around the corner of his house) and that he had to get out to save his uncle who was in need of money for medical treatment (seems kinda odd).

I moved my vehicle and started to walk away when some of his neighbors stopped me. They said he had "seriously f*****" my vehicle and I should look at it. I noticed then that there were dents and blue paint all over the body. I also discovered that one of my tires was going flat. (I keep an electric air pump in the back so I was able to drive far enough to safely change the tire.)

The neighbors encouraged me to call the police. Before the police arrived the resident returned and casually told me he was an enumerator ten years ago and had recognized the CENSUS sign in my window. He said that he had struck the vehicle with the intention of getting my attention. He cooperated with the police and is now awaiting trial.

There was $4,000 damage including the slashed tire which the government said that they would pay for. I have heard nothing back after completing the paperwork and being interviewed by someone from Philadelphia.
